PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Advances in pharmacologic research have broadened the options for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Optimum use of these medications depends on patient surveillance that allows early identification of those who are at risk for or who have developed postmenopausal bone loss. Use of the FRAX® assessment tool can guide both diagnostic workup and therapeutic choices. Keeping abreast of important clinical studies regarding the appropriate use of prevention and diagnostic strategies as well as new and emerging medications for osteoporosis prevention and treatment is essential for all clinicians who treat women who have or are at risk for postmenopausal osteoporosis. This podcast provides an overview of essential information on the early identification, diagnosis, and treatment of women at risk for or affected by postmenopausal osteoporosis.
